Ask the Expert Roundtable Discussions

by Philip on September 22, 2011

ask the expert roundtablesWe will be having our own “ask the expert” roundtables at the Financial Blogger Conference. The expert tables officially run from 1:00pm to 1:30pm on Saturday, October 1st, in the Garden Marquis tent (where we’ll eat lunch).

Here is the full list of experts and the expert table topics:

  • How to Setup an Editorial Calendar (Kay Bell from Don’t Mess with Taxes) – Kay will share her secrets for setting up an editorial calendar and answer any questions related to keeping your content relevant and on-track. She’s also pretty good at answering tax questions.
  • Keep Your Creative Juices Flowing (Andrea Travillian from Smart Step, Inc.) – Andrea will cover the myth about creativity and different ways to keep the juices flowing, such as morning pages; music and aromatherapy (yes aromatherapy!).
  • Email Marketing Campaign Teardown (Justin Premick from AWeber with guest Ramit Sethi) – Justin and Ramit will be doing an “email teardown” session where they critique email campaigns and help attendees improve them.
  • Self Publishing and Marketing on Amazon.com (Mike Piper from Oblivious Investor) – Mike is a pro at producing content for Amazon.com and using his blog to market those books. Learn all about getting your content into book form and getting it into the Amazon.com marketplace.
  • SEO 101 (Greg Go of Wise Bread) – Greg will be giving an advanced SEO talk during the breakout sessions. Therefore, he’s using this time to help you get ready for that session by answering your basic SEO questions.
  • Valuing, Buying, and Owning Multiple Blogs (Mike Heroux from The Financial Blogger) – Mike owns several blogs in the personal finance space. He can answer any questions you have about valuation, the buying process, and how he manages all the work.
  • Twitter (Peter Anderson from Bible Money Matters) – Pete’s got 8,900 Twitter followers. He’s a pro at using twitter to effectively engage his audience and generate traffic to his blog.
  • Facebook (Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income) – Over 12,000 people like the Smart Passive Income Facebook page. Pat’s famous for his Facebook landing page tutorial. Now’s your chance to ask him your burning questions about using Facebook.
  • Google Authorship (Matt Schulz from Creditcards.com) – The “rel=author” tag and other parts of Google’s new initiative are designed to help it sort out who the quality authors are, so that it can associate quality authors with quality websites, make sure original authors — not copycats — are recognized, and ranked them all accordingly. Ask Matt everything you wanted to know about Google Authorship.
  • Freelance Writing (Miranda Marquit from MirandaMarquit.com) – Miranda’s writing can be found all over the personal finance blog-o-sphere, including PT Money. Ask her about finding gigs, managing her time, and generating content ideas.
  • Legal Issues (Danielle Liss from Kitten a Go Go) – Danielle can answer questions related to business entities (i.e. LLC vs Sole Prop), contracts, and even intellectual property issues.

Here’s how it will go down: at the end of lunch (1:00pm), we will place signs/cards on the 10 tables to be used for “ask the expert.” Your job is to find your desired table and go there and ask your questions. There is no real preparation required of anyone here. It’s very informal and friendly. Move from table to table asking questions, or just listen in on the answers and learn from the experts. I’ll make an announcement about the tables and quasi-introduce the “experts” so that you know what’s going on and when to get started.

*AWeber’s Justin Premick will be doing an Email Campaign Teardown during this time. His “table” will actually take place in the conference area, room Salon E, so that he and Ramit can accommodate more people and use the projector for any prepared slides or internet use.

Sounds like a great group of experts, I kind of wish I wasn't at one of the tables myself so I could walk around!

Do you think our tables could be next to each other? I could use the Twitter tips...

I like this concept a lot.

If this is a success, you might want to consider making greater use of the concept in future conferences. My experience is that people learn more when there is interaction and this format insures lots of interaction.

I look forward to seeing how this works out.

Rob

Can we submit our campaign to Ramit or Justin ahead of time if we're willing to volunteer it for the tear down?

Many of these topics would take at least a day on their own. Looks like I have about less than 4 minutes each :-)

Wow! It's going to be tough figuring out which table to go to.

What's great about this is that you can move from table to table. See how many you can get to in 30 mins.
